'Twelfth Night' at Arts Festival on July 7
Springfield Civic Theatre and Springfield Arts Council will present two performances of the William Shakespeare play "Twelfth Night"as part of the Summer Arts Festival at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, in the Veterans Park Amphitheater. All Summer Arts Festival performances are free.
"Twelfth Night" centers on the twins Viola and Sebastian, who are separated in a shipwreck and separately rescued on the island of Illyria, where Viola poses as a man (Cesario) to enter the court of Duke Orsino. Viola falls in love with Orsino, who is smitten with Olivia, who falls for Cesario. "Twelfth Night" is a classic Shakespearean comedy, with love triangles, cross-dressing gender confusion, mistaken identities, comic sub-plots, and love winning out in the end. The play is directed by Nathaniel Beard.
Auditions for "The Wiz" will be June 20-21 & 26-27
Auditions for “The Wiz” will be held from 4-6 p.m. June 20, 21, and 27 and from 6-8 p.m. June 26 in the Rickly Commons Auditorium at the Masonic Home, 2655 W. National Rd., Springfield. “The Wiz” will be directed by Debbie Blunden-Diggs, artistic director of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, and will be performed Sept. 17-19.
Auditions are open to anyone age 14 and above. Auditioners will be taught a song from the show for their vocal audition or can sing their own selected song from a musical. It can be a song from the show. An accompanist will be provided. Callbacks, if needed, will be from 4-6 p.m. June 28.
